Anthony Bourdain Tribute

My personal artwork tribute to late Anthony Bourdain. Anthony Bourdain (1956-2018) was a chef, author, host, & journalist. I have first known him since the day of him hosting Cooks Tour & watched him a lot during his No Reservation days. He was an inspiring figure for me in terms of perceiving world via food & travelling and I love his sarcastic quip & dark humors in his older shows. I have been always thinking about making a fanart based on him and may his soul has found a rest in peace.

This is also a practice for me in making likeness and improving my aptitudes in face modelling & texturing while also refreshing & improving my knowledges in using Unreal Engine for character presentation. I gotta be honest, I still prefer Marmoset Toolbag for presenting portfolio as it feels easier and more streamlined though having some practice on using actual game engine may have more practical benefit in industry. Overall I feel pretty satisfied on the likeness part and the skin shader for now (though I know it can be still improved more along the time) and I still think that my game hair creation skill is still not that good especially in hair texture making & the hair cards grooming. I have to be more focused and more dedicated next time for that though.

The model started in Zbrush from Sphere & manually sculpted & and the skin detail were hand painted with several alphas, lowres model done in Maya, baking done in Substance Painter, & skin texture was manually painted in Substance painter without any of skin texture projection :p. For the hair, I used Xgen for hair texture making & GS Curve Tool plugin in Maya for hair cards grooming.

Hair material is from Unreal digital human material, while I have taken the eyes model & eyes material from Metahuman
